ChatRoulette is one of the most popular random chat sites on the internet. It’s a pretty straightforward premise. You correspond with other people and chat. There are many apps that do this, believe it or not. Random chat apps exist all over the internet. Random chats are fun. You can talk to strangers about various topics and develop your conversational skills. Here are the best random chat apps and Chatroulette apps for Android.

BlahTherapy

Price: free / varies

BlahTherapy is a random chat app with a few different options. Basic Random Chat matches you with another random person and you chat it over text. It’s completely anonymous and you can talk about anything. There is also a (paid) therapist option where you can tell someone about your issues with a stupid psychic reader option which is also paid. Random chat is fine and the therapist option is quite nice if you are having a seizure.

Chatous

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Chatous is one of the most popular apps for random video chats. It works much like Chatroulette where you and another person meet on a video call and talk about things. The app is reasonably clean and it is a bit more complex than Chatroulette. For example, you can add hashtags to associate with people who use the same hashtag. It helps keep the bad guys away. The biggest downside to it is the same issue as all Chatroulette apps. There are a lot of people who are only looking for sexual encounters and that can ruin the experience.

Chatroulette

Price: free

The classic Chatroulette service has no official application. However, it works pretty well on your mobile browser. Just go to the website on your phone, allow your browser to use your mic and camera, and off you go. It basically works the same on mobile, except everything is in portrait mode instead of landscape mode. This includes all the advantages as well as all the disadvantages. We’re hoping it eventually gets an official app, but for now, the website is enough.

Discord

Price: Free / $ 4.99 – $ 9.99 per month

Discord is a great place to meet and chat with strangers. It’s a chat room style app with tons of servers. Originally, it evolved as a gamer platform. However, you can find servers for cooking, dating, gaming, entertainment, and just general chats on most topics. You can google for Discord servers, and the site has a fairly large list of open servers that you can join at any time. This one has video chat, but the vast majority is text chat.

ICQ

Price: free

ICQ is one of the last old chat room platforms on the Internet. It works like all old cats. People can join random chat rooms and talk to strangers on the internet. The app offers text, voice and video calls as well as little extras like stickers, bots, and more. It doesn’t have the random Omegle or Chatroulette feel, but it’s good at finding people to talk to when you’re bored.

Omega

Price: Free with in-app purchase

Omega works very similar to Chatroulette. You open the app, activate the camera, and participate in a random one-on-one chat with other people. The app uses video chats as well as text chats so you can chat in a way that’s convenient for you. There are also regional filters, freebies, and other stuff to keep things interesting. The platform has a gender filter, but we don’t recommend using it. It’s a good time to meet and chat with people.

Omegle

Price: free

The classic Omegle is 100% usable on mobile through a web browser. Just head over to the website and start chatting like you would on a desktop computer. It supports text and video chats as well as some interesting modes to keep things interesting. It has an unrestricted section and we recommend that you carefully walk around this part of the site. You can also do things like post questions that two strangers can answer to start a conversation. It’s the same as it always has been and it works.

Telegram

Price: free

Telegram is a bit of a wildcard on this list. It’s not a random chat app and it’s not really a chat room app either, although it does support chat rooms features. However, you can add Telegram bots that match you with random people to start a conversation. It requires a bit of configuration. However, Telegram is wonderful for this because it is encrypted and generally more secure than a lot of other options.

Tinder

Price: Free / $ 19.99 – $ 29.99 per month

Tinder is primarily for things like dating, but it has a similar premise to Chatroulette and similar apps. You get a stack of regular people, match with them, and then chat with them through the app. Most people end up removing the chat portion of the app and moving it to another service for ease of use. Still, it’s a good way to meet random people in your area and you can totally search for friends there and not your next meeting. Sure, most people are there for hookups so it might take a bit, but it works for that stuff.

Wusoup

Price: free

Wusoup is a neat concept. It is a random chat app similar to Omegle. However, this one incorporates a karma system similar to Reddit. If you are inappropriate or obnoxious, people advise against you. This makes you less likely to correspond with people until you are ultimately banned for bad behavior. This type of community policing mixed with anonymous chat keeps people honest or they can’t go out. This one is also only on a website, but it works with mobile browsers.
