To tease its Inno Day 2021 event scheduled for next week, Oppo unveiled this Wednesday, December 8 in video a smartphone with a retractable photo module. A home-made innovation that is making the technosphere talk a lot and that could revive the fashion for pop-up cameras.
- It could very well be the Oppo Find X4 (Pro) as well as a concept phone
- The pop up mechanism was developed by Oppo itself and would automatically retract if dropped
- The model or concept will surely be presented during the Oppo Inno Day on December 14 and 15, 2021
Do you remember the fashion for pop up selfie cameras in 2018-2019 with the Xiaomi Mi 9T or the famous Oppo Reno shark fin first of the name? Apparently Oppo wants to relaunch this fashion for pop-up cameras, but this time by offering a retractable lens on the back of its smartphone as shown in the video below
It is impossible to know if Oppo has just teased the photo module of its next flagship, the Oppo Find X4 (Pro), or if it is simply a concept phone that the manufacturer will present during its Oppo Inno Day 2021, a 2-day event on December 14th and 15th. On the event page , however, the manufacturer announces that a new “flagship product” will be launched on December 15. The timing therefore seems perfect.
It is also impossible to tell you clearly what such a device could be used for, although we instinctively want to think that the retractable lens should be used for zooming.
As other media have noted, the retractable lens shown by Oppo is marked with several mentions informing us that it is a sensor with a physical size of 1 / 1.56 inches with an f / 2.4 aperture. and a focal length equivalent to 50 mm. These kind of sensors are too big to be a dedicated telephoto lens. I have read Gsmarena speculating that the larger pixels of this sensor could be used to capture more detail or allow for a deeper bokeh effect to be generated.
Anyway, we’ll know more during Inno Day next week. The manufacturer has also announced that it will present new connected augmented reality (AR) glasses as well as a new NPU (Neural Processing Unit). See you on December 14 and 15 on nextpit.fr to take stock of Oppo’s innovations.
