Smartphones can replace almost anything. One of those use cases is to use them as baby monitors. If you have spare devices around the house, you can turn them into baby monitors that will alert you when your child is crying. There are only a few apps that can do this really well, so here are the best baby monitor apps for Android
AtHome Camera app
Price: Free / $ 0.99 with in-app purchases
AtHome Camera is a home surveillance system. It turns your smartphone into a camera. The feed is visible from other smartphones or computers. It comes with a motion sensor function. You receive notifications when the motion sensor is activated. So, it only bothers you if it detects something that is going on. Otherwise, you just configure the connections and that’s it. The app is free to download and use. They ask for an in-app purchase of $ 0.99 to remove the ads. There is also a shop for standalone cameras if you want to go that route. This makes it one of the best baby monitor apps.
BabyCam
Price: Free / $ 0.99
BabyCam is a simple and inexpensive solution for baby monitor applications. It doesn’t require an account for setup and the premium version only costs $ 0.99. The app allows you to connect to your WiFi and see your baby’s room from other parts of the house. This, of course, requires a second device for setup, so hopefully you have an old phone lying around. The app lets you listen to the baby, talk to him, and even turn on the phone’s flash to see the room in the dark. There aren’t a lot of complaints, honestly. He does what he says. The only precaution we would take is to make sure the device in your baby’s room is plugged in to avoid battery drain.
Baby Monitor 3G
Price: Free trial / $ 4.99
Baby Monitor 3G is a fairly stable baby monitor application. You need two devices, one for the baby and one for the parent. You connect them and they work like your usual baby monitor. It enjoys support on networks as old as 3G and that’s good news. In addition, the app has alarms, quick connections, live video and you can activate it on any noise coming from the baby’s room. Data connection via 3G or LTE means you can monitor your baby from anywhere if you need to. The app has a free trial if you want to play around with it a bit, but the full version costs $ 4.99.
Slept
Price: Free / $ 0.99 per month / $ 4.99 per year / $ 8.99
Dormi is one of the most popular baby monitor apps. It has adjustable sensitivity. This way you don’t get any notifications unless the baby really starts making noise. It also offers baby monitor stats (battery info etc), customization features, and tons of additional settings. It has a renewable (monthly) free trial. The subscription service is good if you need something cheap and fast. However, we recommend the one-time payment of $ 8.99. The app has not received an update since 2015. It worries us a bit, but it still works quite well on most devices.
WiFi Baby Monitor application
Price: Free / $ 4.00
WiFi Baby Monitor is one of the simplest baby monitor apps. It works quite easily. Connect two devices to the same WiFi and place one in your baby’s room. It will notify you when something happens. The free version supports voice monitoring only and most of the features. The paid version adds video, response capabilities, encryption, and removes ads. This is rather new. So, there are some bugs with it. However, it’s cheap, doesn’t have a subscription, and it worked well during our testing.
